Mayor Humdinger, or known simply as Humdinger, is the main antagonist of the Nick Jr. series PAW Patrol and the Nickelodeon film PAW Patrol: The Movie, and the secondary antagonist of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. He is the mayor of Foggy Bottom, the arch-nemesis of the PAW Patrol, the leader and boss of the Kitten Catastrophe Crew, and the arch-rival of Mayor Goodway and Ryder.
Personality
Humdinger is a highly competitive man who loves to cheat at virtually everything he sets to compete in. While being very antagonistic in the first season, mainly because he was confident he would win, he becomes extremely villainous in the second season. He's somewhat ego-maniacal, as well as megalomaniacal. He is also extremely charismatic, as he can manipulate Mayor Goodway and the PAW Patrol.
While Mayor Humdinger normally shows no care for other people, he deeply cares about his mother, Helga Humdinger as he's always trying to impress her. He is also shown to care about his kitties as shown when they're about to fall off a cliff in Pups Save a Snowboard Competition.
Physical Appearance
Mayor Humdinger is a Caucasian man with light brown eyes, fair skin, blond hair (that bald on the top of his head with sideburns), eyebrows. He also has a big bushy blonde curled mustache. He always wears a purple suit jacket over a white dress shirt, top hat and wears purple dress pants. He also wears brown shoes with white laces. He also wears pink socks. His standard outfit resembles Rich Uncle Pennybags (the Monopoly man). He also looks similar to the statue of Mayor Goodway's Grover Goodway.
In Season 1, he wore an aviator's cap, goggles and a light purple, gray, white striped scarf, and lacked the top hat and he had a light purple shirt instead of a white dress shirt.
Starting in Season 6, the texture of his mustache and hair was improved, his suit became more detailed, he gains buttons, a handkerchief and a pocket square on his suit jacket, and his suit lapel and his jacket pockets became light purple and his shoes are also changed to brown loafers.
In "Mighty Pups Charged Up: Pups vs. the Copycat", he gains a new outfit after becoming the Copycat's sidekick, "Foggy Boy". He now wears a purple and silver bodysuit decorated with a wavy pattern on the stomach area, silver boots, and a purple mask, and he no longer wears his top hat.
In PAW Patrol: The Movie, Mayor Humdinger's appearance had changed. He still wears his purple top hat, but wears a purple tailcoat over a white dress shirt, a pink necktie, purple slacks, purple socks and black dress shoes. His mustache is also thick. He also wears light purple boxers with kitty faces on it.
Biography
Much of Mayor Humdinger's past is unknown or what made him into who he is. During the series, his role is usually as a rival to Mayor Goodway or to sabotage something depending on the episode. Since then, he has become more villainous as each season progresses.
PAW Patrol: The Movie
In PAW Patrol: The Movie, Mayor Humdinger travels to Adventure City and runs for mayor because he wanted to make a name for himself. In the film, he hires two new henchmen named Ruben and Butch.
During his stay in Adventure City, Humdinger goes to a university to get the rain clouds removed from the sky so he can do his fireworks show tomorrow and with the help of Kendra Wilson, Humdinger uses a device known as the Cloud Catcher to suck all the clouds from the sky.
The next day, Humdinger prepares a fireworks show to get public approval, but it ends up going wrong when the controls go out of control and a fireworks display starts at the city hall.
After finding out that PAW Patrol is in Adventure City, Humdinger calls his henchmen and orders them to capture all of the PAW Patrol's pups and have them out of way by any means necessary. The next day, the mayor turns the subway tracks into a roller coaster, which ends up with the train hanging upside down. During the chaos, Humdinger and his henchmen flee.
In an off-screen moment, Humdinger alongside Ruben and Butch start kidnapping all the dogs in Adventure City, and his goons only managed to capture Chase after getting into an argument with Ryder, feeling betrayed by him when he tells him to take a break from missions after he convinced him to come back to the city when he didn't want to and runs away, which made it easier for Humdinger's goons to catch him on his own and they lock him and all dogs in a dog school which Humdinger turned into dog prison. Then Liberty later but she got herself caught on purpose by humiliating Humdinger on the news so she and the team can find Chase. The next day, Humdinger opens Humdinger Highs and destroys the control that controls the Cloud Catcher.
When the Cloud Catcher ends up getting out of control, a storm ends up hitting Adventure City and puts all citizens, including Humdinger in danger. He appears in his office hiding under his desk, trying to protect himself from the storm until Ryder shows up to rescue him, who initially refuses but he doesn't want to die in the storm, so he accepts Ryder's help. Soon Humdinger enters the elevator, which Ryder manually activates and makes Mayor Humdinger plummet down the elevator to the lobby of the building as it stops he still screams but then realizes he's okay but in awkward position in front of people.
After the Cloud Catcher is destroyed by Skye, Humdinger tries to escape, but he gets caught and confronted by Chase, as he places him under arrest for his reckless actions as mayor, putting everyone in danger and putting him and all innocent dogs unlawfully arrested, but he refuses to turn himself in because he foolishly thinks mayors can't get arrested, he runs but ends up being stopped by Skye who ends up holding him by her drone rope, but the rope can't support the man's weight and ends up tearing his pants and making him fall. When Humdinger gets up, he ends up being humiliated once again by the PAW Patrol.
In the credits, Mayor Humdinger and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew are shown to have been apprehended, detained, and imprisoned for their crimes throughout the film.
PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie
Mayor Humdinger appears in Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie as the secondary antagonist. He is first seen introducing himself and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew to Victoria Vance in their prison cell and team up together to escape prison by crawling into an underground tunnel Mayor Humdinger dug beneath the toilet. Afterwards, he becomes the Mega Mayor after Vance grants him superpowers with the crystals to defeat the Paw Patrol while she tries to snatch meteors. However, the Paw Patrol defeat him by climbing on him thanks to the help of the Junior Patrollers and shrink him back to normal. Mayor Humdinger is rearrested by Chase off-screen shortly after, with his last quote being, "Aww, not again!"
Trivia
- The only person that Mayor Humdinger has been beaten by (other than Mayor Goodway) is Mr. Porter in a baking contest.
- "Humdinger" is defined as a person or thing of remarkable or superior excellence. This is indicative of the Foggy Bottom mayor's haughty, egotistical attitude, and great desire to be the best in anything in which he participates.
- Mayor Humdinger's manner of dress and behavior resembles the classic archetypical mustached villains (like Snidely Whiplash or Dick Dastardly) and even shares several classic mannerisms such as stroking his mustache, villainous laughter, and hand-rubbing. His habit of cheating in various competitions in Season 2 is similar to Dick Dastardly from Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Races. In "Pup-Fu!", he's depicted even more like a typical villain to the point he has a secret lair for himself and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew, which has a monitor which he uses to spy on his enemies (a villainous trope).
- In Season 1, while antagonistic towards Mayor Goodway, Mayor Humdinger for the most part played fairly in all the competitions he competed in. However, in Season 2, he began cheating and/or playing unfairly to win. The likely reason for this change is that in Season 1, he had generally been undefeated in the various competitions and was quite confident in his ability to defeat his competition and win. However, due to being defeated by Mayor Goodway and Mr. Porter in at least two different competitions due to help from the PAW Patrol, he likely lost his confidence that he could successfully win competitions fairly and began cheating and playing unfairly to ensure his (and/or his town's) victory. He even creates the Kitten Catastrophe Crew to assist him in cheating and to counter PAW Patrol.
- Since he's the main antagonist of the franchise, Mayor Humdinger also appears in the first two specials, serving as the secondary antagonist of the 2018 special Mighty Pups (with the main antagonist being Harold Humdinger) and the 2019 special Ready Race Rescue (with the main antagonist being The Cheetah). He also serves as the main antagonist of the 2021 movie Paw Patrol: The Movie, and the secondary antagonist of it's 2023 sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (with the main antagonist being Victoria Vance).
- The 2020 special Jet to the Rescue is the first and currently only special where Mayor Humdinger does not appear in.
- He also currently doesn't make an appearance in the 2023 spinoff series Rubble and Crew, with his role being replaced with a new villain named Speed Meister.
