Doug is an animated television series created by Jim Jinkins for Nickelodeon. The show premiered on August 11, 1991 along with two original Nicktoons Rugrats and Ren and Stimpy. Doug centers on the titular character, Douglas Funnie and his school life in Bluffington. In each episode, it is shown that Doug has a vivid imagination as he is shown in various sequences. The show addresses issues that kids might face in schools such as bullying, self-esteem, rumors, and even mature themes such as mental disorders. It also tackles issues of growing up.
Nickelodeon and Viacom only own the rights to seasons 1-4 before being purchased by Disney. Disney then worked on the last 3 seasons and wrapped it up with a movie. The last 3 seasons aired on ABC. While Doug became a top show for ABC including merchandise, Disney's version of Doug was met with mixed reception and declining quality. The Disney version will not be covered on this wiki.
